What is Votrient? Indications for treatment of Pazopanib drug?
Votrient (pazopanib) is a cancer medicine that prevents the growth and spread of cancer cells in the body.
- Votrient is used to treat advanced kidney carcinoma (kidney cancer).
- Votrient is also used to treat soft tissue sarcoma, a tumor that can grow in or around muscles, ligaments, joints, organs, or blood vessels.
- Votrient is often used after other cancer drugs have been tried without successful treatment of soft tissue sarcoma.
Votrient is not recommended for use in patients under 18 years of age.
The mechanism of action of Pazopanib
Pazopanib is a type of treatment called tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI), also known as cancer growth inhibitor. Kinases are important proteins in the body that regulate the way cells grow and divide. Pazopanib prevents proteins (kinases) from sending signals to cancer cells to grow. Blocking the signals makes the cells die.
Pazopanib may also prevent cancer cells from developing new blood vessels. This reduces their oxygen and nutrient supply, so that the tumor shrinks or stops growing. This is called angiogenesis treatment.
The recommended dose of the drug Votrient
- The initial recommended dose: maximum of 800mg 1 time per day.
- The initial dose should be reduced from 800mg to 400mg daily.
- If you forget to take: do not take a supplement if it is less than 12 hours after the next dose.
Instructions for dosage modification
In RCC: reduce the initial dose to 400 mg and reduce the supplement or increase the dose by 200 mg depending on individual tolerance.
In STS: a decrease or increase should be made in steps of 200 mg based on an individual’s tolerance.
Hepatic impairment: No dose adjustment is necessary in patients with mild hepatic impairment. In patients with moderate hepatic impairment, alternatives to Votrient should be considered. If Votrient is used in patients with moderate hepatic impairment, the dose should be reduced to 200 mg daily. Votrient is not recommended in patients with severe hepatic impairment
