What medication is Revolade? Indications for treatment of Revolade 50mg
- Revolade (Eltrombopag) belongs to a class of drugs called thrombopoietin receptor agonists.
- Revolade is used to increase the number of platelets in the blood for adults with chronic immune thrombocytopenia (ITP).
- Revolade may be used to treat people who have removed their spleen and medications used as first-line treatments are no longer effective.
- Revolade can also be used to treat adults, who remove the spleen not an option but those with low platelet counts.
- Eltrombopag is also used to increase platelet counts for people infected with chronic hepatitis C virus, so they can use interferon to treat infections. This drug should only be used for people with chronic hepatitis C infection when the number of platelets in the blood is too low to start interferon treatment.
- Eltrombopag is also used to treat adults with severe aplastic anemia (SAA) when other treatments are not effective.
How does Revolade work?
In the body, a hormone called ‘thrombopoietin’ stimulates platelet production by attaching to certain targets in the bone marrow.
The active substance in Revolade, eltrombopag, attaches to and stimulates receptors similar to thrombopoietin. This leads to an increase in platelet production, improving platelet counts.
